Now a days we see a lot of people working on the computer for long periods of time in a single sitting. Staring at the screen can be dangerous for the eyes and sitting in a wrong posture can lead to back issues. Let us just concentrate on the eyes for now.
The list of problems which arise due to continuous staring at the screen:
- Blurred vision
- Head ache
- Back pain
- Neck pain
- Irritation in the eyes
- Problem with sleep
Eyes are very important, but so is our job. We cannot just stop working on the computer but still there are simple things we can do which can prevent our eyes from getting overly strained.
Things we can do for relaxing our eyes:
- 20-20-20 : For every 20 minutes of work you do, take a break for 20 seconds and stare at an object atleast 20 feet away from you (far object). This is a very talked about technique these days and there are mobile applications which can help you with this.
- Blue Light Filter : The blue light from the screen is known to be very straining for the eyes. There are applications like 'Flux'(very famous software) which can cut the blue light i.e, this app acts like a blue light filter. Do you find difficulty in getting early sleep and just struggle around on our bed? After using this for few days, you will get better results.
- Arrange properly: Make sure you are not too close to the screen when you are working. Keep a safe distance, about 25 inches from the screen. Use an extra keyboard if you are using a laptop. Also keep your posture upright and do not stoop too low. Do not bend your back a lot as well.
- Keep washing your eyes now and then. In the end make sure your eyes do get a sufficient amount of rest.
